So..this is what i have been up to lately! Jace Christopher was welcomed in to our world on December 14, 2010. Born in the middle of a snowy night at home, thanks to our awesome midwife, Cory. My labour and his birth was an amazing experience that was over in a matter of a couple hours…we are blessed!
Lots of creative ideas circling around this sleepy head….hopefully I will be able to get paintbrush to canvas soon!

Just finished up this painting this morning. She is a donation for a Charity Auction to raise money for a friend on her way to Africa on a Mission. I originally understood that it was a silent auction…but have since learned that there will be a live Auctioneer as well! gulp…hope that she helps raise some money for this worthy cause!

So…I was considering honing my digital artiste skills with an online class or two. After a lot of thought, I have decided that I like the raw and unfinished touch that my illustrations have. I am developing my own style that is changing with a naturally evolving ebb and flow.
I think it is great that many blogger-artists are offering online workshops. And learning some new expertise can be invaluable. On the other hand, it is so easy to lose yourself in other admirable artists work and style. Just remember to be true to you and let your own style shine through!

I have carved a few hours of alone time out of my day…ahhhhhh…a quick post then plans to get elbow deep in drippy, messy, colourful paint and whatever else I can get my hands on. Feeling a burst of creative energy today….I must not let that go to waste. It seems to happen so rarely these days :(….maybe this is the start of a positive trend…..

In my absence...soccer games...charity day...birthday parties...home reno's....and last but not least....lots of zzzzzz's! I am excited to announce that a new little bean will be welcomed into our family in early December! We are over the moon excited! My son is hoping for a brother...he thinks that 4 sisters would be far too much to handle!!! And I think he might be right! A little more testosterone and a little less estrogen might swing the balance a little more in a manageable direction..but...we still have em beat on leaving the seat down! Stay tuned...in a few weeks we hope to find out...if the little one cooperates and lets us get a peek! Either way...we are blessed!
On a side note....Josh and I are visiting London for a week sans kids! It is fabulous! I now can say that I have experienced jetleg.... but the city is so beautiful I wouldn't dare complain. We are off to see Jersey Boys tomorrow night...the theaters are incredible and the city is full of so much history it is almost overwhelming!

It is time to retreat my favourite colours to the back and move those less used dusty bottles of colourful greatness to the front lines! I have been doing some drawing with my Wacom tablet in Illustrator and these little love birds are the result. I still prefer my sketchbook, although experimenting with new mediums and ideas are what keep me inspired.
I have been working on my website that I have hopes of launching in the very near future! Finding it tedious but I wanted to design it myself and learn what I can along the way. Such a time consuming process...I found lots of great tutorials out there!!! Check out this link that a friend shared with me...not only tons of info but easy to follow... w3schools.com

Christmas cards can by found at my ETSY SHOP. These greeting cards are printed on recycled kraft card stock and have matching envelopes.

I wanted to create some cards with simple graphics that could be found appealing to all, plus a little humour. I do like that organic feel to these. So many great christmas card finds on ETSY this year! I am hoping to share some of my favourites with you soon!

This is an illustration from my sketchbook. I have been working on keeping my illustrations simple these days. Easier said than done but I think this little birdy has some personality. Still seriously addicted to my sketchbook. The main reason being that I can steal a few minutes here and there throughout my day and still feel like I am being creative. I am ok with it but am hoping to get some time to break out the messiness of my paints and canvases again soon. I leave you with the best of intentions.

I never would have believed it in a million years.

We have climbed many a mountain, foothill and bunnyhill, slid down and climbed out of many raveens, valleys and potholes together.

Structure, routine and responsibility were never my strong suit in my younger days. These guys ground me. I am still learning every day...I think they are perfect.

This is MOIRA..she's a crazy party girl. I am really digging the colour combo of the primary colours. Getting back to the basics feels good. Don't get me wrong, I love mixing up all kinds of fab colours. I can't get enough of bright colours, cool patterns and fancy papers. Something as simple as new fancy paper can carry my great mood through the entire day. Do you get me??

If you had read a previous post regarding the Art Auction...you may remember that there was a bidding war over my "Matilda" painting...well..since then, the lady who didn't win in the end called me up for a special request...this painting was a special order requested by this proud mama who's little girl is graduating from University....mom requested her daughters fav colours and thought the teapot and cup added a personal touch as this blonde beauty loves her tea time...what do you think?

I have to admit that I don't love doing commissions...I prefer to paint in a more spontaneous manner....but....don't we all?

home at last

We had a great vacation...but 2 weeks is just too long to be gone from home for me. I need my "stuff" around me. paper pens paint journal canvases laptop knitting needles yarn..etc..etc..etc. I could so easily be a hermit. The kids had a great time...and travelling from Canada to South Carolina in a minivan with 6 of us actually was not bad at all. Even the wee one...only 10 weeks old slept through the majority of the drive and was an angel the entire vacation. We are convinced that she wants to move the US...she has a tendancy to be a tad grumpy...but on our trip she was such a happy easy baby... Now back at home, she is her old self! So adorable though we can't stop squeezing her.

I was thrilled to find out that my submission to the Art Auction was well received! Bidding ended at twelve noon today .... shortly after a bidding war over my piece! I was happy to contribute all the proceeds to the cause...which is the renovation of a local theatre house that is in dire need of repair.

The sweet lady who won the bidding war drove 45 minutes and waited for 2 hours to get her bid in last. It feels good.

For some reason I have trouble parting with my art. Is it because I have an emotional connection? Who knows...but it felt great today.

I was happy...

But now....I'm happier!

I wanted to submit this piece in a local silent auction ...so I reworked it ...added a word and some rosy cheeks and then some. I am happy with the results. It is great to see the before and after. I am getting better at taking photos of my artwork, I was so happy when I found the "before" saved on my computer. This is a perfect example of why it is a great idea to take those photos and organize them.

She looks like a Matilda...don't you think?

my photos definately need some work, that is on my long list. Learning how to use my new Canon XSI...I love it...but I want to take full advantage of all it offers...not just point and shoot. I will post my to-do list shortly....It makes me feel accountable some how. funny.

This turned out to be a random piece that has a different style than my usual work...I believe that it is good practice to stretch beyond your norm and comfort level...in art and otherwise.

This is one of two birthday paintings for friends of my daughters. This is painted on 16"x20" canvas...notice the horseshoe and "dance" that we added to personalize it just for Raven. We were impressed how the first one turned out so P wanted one for her friend as well. Something fun that they can hang in their bedroom. Now my girls want one for above their own beds as well....
